The Power of Data for Women and Girls

ADB article demonstrates that disaggregating data on social and economic issues by gender providers better information about income and ownership at the micro level

Asian Development Bank article discusses the Evidence and Data for Global Equality project (EDGE), a joint venture by the UN Statistics Division and UN Women to integrate gender issues into official statistics for better, evidence-based policies. Generating social and economic data separated by sex tells a more complete and nuanced story about income and ownership. The need for economic and social statistical evidence by sex will become more critical to progress on gender-related UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Guidelines on the Assessment of Suitability

EBA and ESMA guidelines for improving corporate governance

European Banking Authority and European Securities and Markets Authority joint guidelines on assessing the suitability of members of management bodies and key function holders. Aim to harmonize and improve suitability assessments within EU financial sectors and to ensure sound governance arrangements in line with the Capital Requirements Directive (CRD IV) and the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID II). Banking on Women Leaders: A Case for More?

IMF research examines link between financial stability and gender

International Monetary Fund research study measures large gap between representation of men and women in leadership positions in banks and bank supervision agencies worldwide. Results show that many low- and middle-income countries have a higher share of women on bank boards and bank supervision agency boards compared to advanced economies. Evidence suggests that the presence of women as well as a higher share of women on bank boards is associated with greater bank stability.
